About The Initiatives for Sustainable Landscapes (ISLA) in the Central Highlands-Vietnam

Vietnam is the second largest coffee producer globally, providing employment opportunities for hundreds of thousands of small-scale households. The Central Highlands region, encompassing provinces such as Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Kontum, Gia Lai, and Dak Nong, serves as the primary hub for coffee cultivation, accounting for an impressive 85% of the country's total coffee production area.

Since 2014, IDH has been actively implementing the Coffee & Landscape Program in Vietnam. By integrating resources from initiatives such as the Pepper Project and the ILandscape Project, IDH is spearheading the development of sustainable, large-scale sourcing areas for key agricultural products, including coffee, pepper, and fruits, in Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, and Gia Lai.

IDH takes a collaborative approach, harnessing the collective power of public, private, and international donor resources and participation. Through this unified effort, they aim to establish effective governance systems, design and implement innovative business models, and introduce technical interventions at the landscape level. The program's ultimate objective is to foster the sustainable development of agricultural landscapes by enhancing cooperation between different stakeholders, leveraging available resources and advantages, and coordinating the implementation of production practices prioritising sustainability, resource protection, and Inclusion (PPI).
