The Cavally region is one of the main forest areas of Côte d'Ivoire. It is located in the west of Côte d'Ivoire, in the peripheral zone of the Taï National Park. It covers a total area of 14,150 Km2. The main commodities are cocoa, rubber and timber. At the local level, several private sector companies supply cocoa, coffee, rubber, timber and rice, but&nbsp;there was no initiative or cooperation between these actors before the first convening made by IDH in 2018.

Sorriso&nbsp;is located in the northern part of Mato Grosso state and it is a major grain producer in Brazil. Its economy is strongly linked to intensive production of soy and corn, occupying a large part of its territory. It is also located in a transition region between the Cerrado and the Amazon Biomes. The total area of the municipality is 934.755 ha, of which 607.000 ha is dedicated to annual crops and 285.000ha of preserved native vegetation. The grains production in Sorriso corresponds to 3% of total national production, with more than 5.6million ton of grains (soy and corn) produced over only one crop season and more than 26 thousand tons of cotton. 
 
The compact was initiated in May 2018, with the convening of stakeholders from the public sector and farmers representative; over the past of 4 months different stakeholders were invited to participate on the construction of the vision and targets for the territory, being them representative of the family agriculture farmers, NGO´s, local industries, banks, retailers and traders and in September of 2018 a Letter of Intentions were signed and a vision for the sustainable development of the territory was established. After the signature of the letter of intentions the recently formed local coalition started to build up the local targets in accordance with the vision and in April 2019 the Compact was formally signed through an MoU between the parties.

The PPI Compact Huila includes the municipalities of Algeciras, Gigante, Garzón, Agrado and Campoalegre, that together sum up an area of 243.642 ha. It is estimated that 14% of this area belongs to natural forest, counts with 5 protected areas, and around 25% of the territory is suitable for agriculture. The municipalities are part of the subcenter region of Huila and stand out because of the production and quality of cacao and coffee, other commodities produced in this area are rice, tilapia, sugar cane and red beans. The Municipalities have a strong influence from the Magdalena River and El Quimbo and Betania dams. Diferent intiatives and articulations are being developed in the those territories like the Efecto Cacao, run by Luker Foundationa and financed by USAID, Luker Chocolate, Enel Emgesa, EAFIT and IDH; the Colombia + competitiva initiative led by SECO and Swiss Contact; and Cacao Origins financed by IDH and the Embassy of The Netherlands, and implemented by EQUIORI and Colcocoa.

Huila has a long history as an agriculture Department of Colombia with some of the finest coffees and cocoas from Colombia. Huila has been also recognized for its high rice production. Additionally, the area is included as a transition zone of the Amazon ecoregion, which acquires importance in terms of conservation.

In 2019, the Musi Banyuasin district government has issued two District Head Regulations as the basis for the development of sustainable plantation commodities in Musi Banyuasin. This policy will facilitate collective action to promote sustainable plantation commodities towards a joint Protection, Production, and Inclusion (PPI Compact) target.&nbsp; 
PPI Compact implementation in Musi Banyuasin will be facilitated by a Center of Excellence (CoE) for Sustainable Plantation, named PUKL. In achieving PPI Compact, PUKL has 3 (three) main functions including:

About the landscape Aceh 
Aceh Province is an exceptionally important producing region of multiple commodities. The province also covers a large part of Leuser ecosystem, home to unique species such as Sumatran orangutan, Sumatran elephant and rhinoceros. These three have been placed on the list of endangered species by the International Union for Conservation on Nature (IUCN). Aceh Tamiang District, in particular produces number of important commodities such as palm oil, natural rubber, pulp, and coffee. 
 
Together with stakeholders, IDH aims to protect the remaining natural forest on private, state and community land with a specific focus on the Leuser ecosystem. IDH connected large palm oil buyers such as Pepsico and Unilever that have a reputational interest in delinking palm oil from deforestation and are looking for cost effective solutions, to the government of Aceh Tamiang. The government, the palm oil companies and IDH are exploring how to create a Verified Sourcing Area (VSA) in Aceh Tamiang. 
 
About the Compact 
The Government of Aceh Tamiang District signed the PPI compact together with the&nbsp;Indonesian Association of Indonesian Palm Oil Producers (GAPKI)&nbsp;Aceh,&nbsp;the Leuser Conservation Forum (FKL), Yayasan Inisiatif Dagang Hijau (IDH), the Aceh Tamiang Farmers and Fishermen Group Association (KTNA) and the Forest Management Unit (KPH) Region III Aceh. Collaboration will ensure that all target of sustainable palm oil production, protection of forest areas and the Leuser Ecosystem Area and improving the welfare of independent smallholders will be achieved in 2023.

About the landscape West Kalimantan West Kalimantan is a major production area for palm oil, timber, and pulp &amp; paper, and therefore vital for the Indonesian economy. It is a sourcing area for many (international) companies and provides a source of incomes for local communities that are largely dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods. In the past five years, agriculture generated IDR 120.49 trillion to the economy. At the same time, the forests and peatlands of West Kalimantan are significant carbon stocks. The estimated carbon stock remaining in the province equals 1.6 Giga tons CO2. Moreover, its forests are home to endemic and endangered species such as the Bornean orangutan and the Proboscis monkey. IDH aim to conserve 190,000 hectares of HCV/HCS forest and peatland (directly and indirectly), restore 10,000 hectares of forest and peatland, and improve sustainable agricultural production on 45,000 hectares. In addition, we aim to improve the livelihoods of 10,000 smallholder farmers and community members that are directly reached by training and service delivery. About the Compact Ketapang The PPI Compact Ketapang has been officially signed by all stakeholders in 2019. The stakeholders are coming from various backgrounds, from private sectors (including IOI, Goodhope and ANJ), CSOs, and local governments. The compact directly implied that there is a strong commitment from stakeholders to support Ketapang Green Growth Vision. The commitment then translated into specific targets and indicators, covering palm oil production, biodiversity protection, empowering regional owned enterprises (BUMD), better employment, and traceability. The ambitious targets will be achieved within the timeline of 5 years. The Compact is also expected to serve as anchor of verification and monitoring of sourcing areva as well as promotion of good agricultural practices.

This PPI compact pilots for a Robusta coffee based jurisdiction (coffee accounts for 94.3% of agri land), sourced by a number coffee buyers (such as ACOM, LDC...) and faced with issues of soil degradation, water overuse and bad farming practices to implement Green Growth targets. This project integrates SDM approach (from Coffee Program) into the PPI compact to introduce a new model for service delivery of high-quality inputs at large scale. This is the first time we engage small traders into the project as key partners to improve efficiency of farmers’ input support and thrives towards transparent supply chain. This project pilots the innovative learnings among farmers to improve adoption rate of sustainable farming practices to ensure that both farmers within and without supply chains of companies get access to knowledge and investment opportunities for improved PPI compact. is to outline a shared vision for a sustainable coffee landscape based on green growth and sustainability for Di Linh District, Lam Dong province.

Balsas Compact it is &nbsp;a pact at the municipal level in Balsas-MA, through an interinstitutional initiative establishing the cooperation and efforts necessary to promote economic and sustainable development based on three main axes, namely: Production, Conservation and Inclusion (PCI). 
The municipality of Balsas is located in the State of Maranh&atilde;o, which is part of the region called MATOPIBA which also includes the states of Tocantins, Piau&iacute; and Bahia. This region located in the North / Northeast of Brazil is characterized by the Cerrado biome and by its frank expansion in agricultural production in recent years, which consolidates it as an important agricultural frontier in the country. 
According to the IBGE, in 2019 the city of Balsas has an estimated population of 94,887 inhabitants, and an area that corresponds to approximately 13,141,757 km&sup2;, thus becoming the third largest city in the state in urbanized territory and the largest municipality in the world. Maranh&atilde;o in total area (urban and rural), with a demographic density of 6.36 inhabitants / km&sup2;. 
According to data analyzed by the Maranhense Institute of Socioeconomic and Cartographic Studies (IMESC) based on the 2017 GDP data released by the IBGE, Balsas is one of the six municipalities that contribute to half of the GDP of the State of Maranh&atilde;o, as well as in other regions in the state its economy is mainly focused on Agriculture, in the production and trade of grains, especially Soy, which is constituted as the economic base of the city, having one of the largest production volumes in the North and Northeast. 
In 2019, 214,424 hectares of soy planted area were surveyed, thus constituting the largest area in the state, corresponding to 21% of the planted area in the entire state. &nbsp; According to data from the Municipal Livestock Survey (PPM) of 2018, registered by IBGE, the number of cattle reached 72,391 head of cattle, and the use of land for grazing was 12,385 ha, of which 8.6 1,000 ha are degraded according to data from the Agroideal tool (<a href="https://pecuaria.agroideal.org/br" target="_blank">pecuaria.agroideal.org/br</a>/). The bovine stocking, according to the Agroideal tool, corresponded to 0.8 AU / ha for the base year of 2017.&nbsp; 
Specification in the state of Maranh&atilde;o, FAPCEN has partners and work developed in seven municipalities, namely: Balsas, Riach&atilde;o, Loreto, Pastos Bons, Tasso Fragoso, S&atilde;o Raimundo das Mangabeiras and Alto Parn&aacute;iba. 
FAPCEN is an institution which is part of several dialogue tables in different sectors, with assiduous partners in the execution of the proposed works. He has technical and managerial capacity to successfully carry out work at regional, national and international levels, has experience and has already carried out work in partnerships with renowned institutions such as: IPAM (Amazon Research Institute), TNC (The Nature Conservancy), EII ( Earth Innovation Institute), and a partnership with Solidaridad and HDI, this in 2011-2014.

The Juruena Valley (Juruena and Cotrigua&ccedil;&uacute; municipalities), located in the Northwest of Mato Grosso state, has great conservation relevance for being an ecotone, a transition area between two biomes, Cerrado (Savannah) and Amazon. This biome transition condition has many peculiarities but the fundamental one is to be a hotspot with a rich variety of endemic species.&nbsp;These neighboring municipalities are located on the margins of Juruena river, around 930 km north of Cuiaba, Mato Grosso state capital.&nbsp; 
 
The region is considered the new agricultural frontier since its colonization occurred recently &ndash; around 30 years ago &ndash; and consequently the deforestation culture is still strong and present within local community. Juruena Municipality has a total area of 319.000ha, of which 191.400ha are preserved with native vegetation and the other 127.600ha are mainly used for livestock activities. The municipality of Cotrigua&ccedil;u has a total area of 912.358ha, of which 711.000ha is still preserved with its native vegetation (being 168.938ha an indigenous land) and the other 200.640ha are used for livestock activities. Juruena Valley is considered one of the breeding cradles of Mato Grosso, being responsible for the production of 35% of calves in the state. 
 
IDH, together with Natcap and local stakeholders, have conducted a process designed to build a sustainable development vision for the Juruena Valley region, comprising the municipalities of Juruena and Cotrigua&ccedil;u. This process, which took place in the second half of 2017, had as its main stages the engagement of local stakeholders, the agreement on intentions regarding the priorities for the region, the set-up of goals, and the consolidation of the common vision for the municipality through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on&nbsp; May of 2018. The PCI Regional Compact in the Juruena Valley aims to develop a d-free sourcing area for local products, through public and private partnership, enabling conditions to promote sustainable intensification, while reducing deforestation and generating income.

The PPI Compact in Magdalena includes the municipalities of Zona Bananera, Cienaga, Aracataca and Fundación, &nbsp;that together sum up an area of 448.397 ha. Approximately 21% of this area belongs to National Park Sierra Nevada, which implies high opportunities for conservation and the development of strtaegies for sustainable production. It is estmitaed that 15,7% of the area should be destinated to conservation, 63,8% have potential for agroforestry and protection, and 18% for agriculture. The area counts with 69.424 ha of native forest.

Main commoditties of this territory &nbsp;are the banana and Palm Oil, with 10.786 ha and 20.280 ha of planted area respectively. Other commoditties produced in the zone are coffee, mango, maize and yucca, that have become an opportunity for smallholders to improve family's economy. The Department of Magdalena counts with one of the most important ports of Colombia, mobilising around 2.777.953 tons in exportations that includes products like banana, palm oil, and coffee among others. This port provide a competitive advantage to the PPI of Magdalena in terms of infrastructure and Development.

Some initiatives, that have been developed in the region during the last years, have strengthened the articulation among actors in the territory. Mainly those initiatives have been linked up to the water management, on of those is the water stewardship collective action led by WWF, that gathers different actors in the basin and water resources conservation. Other actors working on sustainable agricultural practices and watersheds protection are Fedeplama, The Embassy of The Netherlands, FAO, and The Embassy of the United Kingdom, among others.

Magdalena

Kunak, a district southern Sabah, is characterised by its limestone landscapes and an abundance of forest reserves, which make up a total of 58% of total district land area and are managed by the Sabah Forestry Department. The forest reserves are classified either as Class I, Protection Forest Reserve or as Virgin Jungle Reserves so as to conserve the watershed to protect natural resources such as biodiversity, wildlife habitat, and forest carbon stocks and the long-term viability of wildlife populations of Kunak and Tawau districts. Kunak is a key agricultural district with great potential for oil palm and cacao, with a shift in preference for the former in recent times. Approximately 65% of oil palm planted in the district is operated by large companies with the remaining 35% being privately owned or smallholdings. Given the large proportion of oil palm smallholdings, the establishment of the PPI compact in Kunak will help support the livelihoods of smallholders tremendously in the area, whilst still creating strong opportunities to protect the district&rsquo;s natural resources.&nbsp;

At the state level, the Sabah state government is aiming to achieve state-wide sustainable palm oil production through the implementation of Sabah Jurisdictional Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (JCSPO), based on the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil Jurisdictional Approach (RSPO JA) &ndash; Certified Sustainable Palm Oil, as well as through MSPO certification. Implementation of the JCSPO will be led by the Sabah JCSPO Secretariat under the umbrella of Jurisdictional Certification Steering Committee (JCSC), a multi-stakeholder coalition comprised of Sabah state agencies, civil society organizations and private sector companies. Implementation of MSPO is led by the MPOB and Malaysian Palm Oil Certification Council (MPOCC), working together with the Sabah Department of Agriculture.

At the national level, IDH is partnering with Solidaridad to deliver the National Initiative on Sustainable and Climate Smart Oil Palm Smallholders (NI-SCOPs) &ndash; to support the Malaysian Government and key stakeholders such as the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) to meet the Malaysian commitments under the Paris Agreement, the Convention on Biological Diversity, and the SDGs. The NI-SCOPs program works closely together with the Malaysian government to improve smallholder livelihoods and tackle climate change by adapting to the new climate, protecting forests, and preventing carbon emissions. In addition to smallholder-focused landscape interventions which will be carried out in selected sites throughout Malaysia, the program also has a strong link with Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) standards, and will contribute to its review, as well as increased transparency on impacts, its implementation and enforcement.&nbsp;

The county of Lofa, in North West Liberia, is also known as the &lsquo;bread basket of Liberia&rsquo;. Situated at the border of Sierra Leone and Guinee, the region facilitates Lofa as&nbsp;a commercial hub. The 350,000 people in&nbsp;Lofa&nbsp;are known for their entrepreneurial attitude and well-functioning agricultural cooperatives. As the vast majority of the population relies on subsistence farming and Lofa&rsquo;s Spatial Development Plan&nbsp;shows an ambition of covering 30% of the county with agriculture, the county has high potential to increase its agricultural production to combat food insecurity in Liberia. The vision of the PPI compact is to enhance sustainable agricultural intensification and to facilitate regenerative forests through agroforestry in Lofa and to protect the&nbsp;remaining forest.&nbsp; 
 
Foya, one of the counties&rsquo; district, is highly populated and has been subject to land degradation because of intensive, unsustainable agriculture. As a consequence of clearing forests to cultivate the land and moving to another piece of land the following year, the native forestry vegetation has been replaced by thick savannah grassland which continues to infest the area. Clearing the forest has led to a lower quality of soil, soil erosion on hills and a water that evaporates quicker because of a greater exposure to the sun.&nbsp; 
 
Following the trend of deforestation of the Guinea forest in West-Africa, Foya is currently the frontier of deforestation. By restoring and protecting forest in Foya through the first PPI compact in Liberia, stakeholders hope to halt the deforestation of Foya into other counties of Liberia.&nbsp; 
 
The compact was prepared in the June 2019 when the stakeholders agreed to a multi-stakeholder agreement in which the vision of the compact was laid out. In the course of 2020, the targets of the compact were determined based on the outcomes of the Participatory Land Use Plan of Foya. The final PPI compact will be signed end of 2020.

Paderu is a jurisdiction block in Vishakhapatnam district of AP and is located in the lush green area of the Eastern Ghats hills range in India. Nearly, 73% of land area in Paderu block is under forest land followed by agricultural land (20.2%), plantations (2.5%) and built up land covers only 2.1%. The soils are mainly red sandy loams and light to medium in texture. It falls under the agro-climatic zone of high altitude. The normal annual rainfall is 1252 mm and mean annual temperature varies from 24 °C to 35 °C providing ideal climatic zones for production of coffee and spices such as black pepper and turmeric as well as a number of horticulture crops. Agriculture is the main source of livelihood of the people living in this area and they practice shifting cultivation on hill slopes.&nbsp; Majority of the rural population in Paderu is tribal and constitutes of smallholder farmers with landholding of less than 1 Ha. Paderu compact (status in 2022) Currently the process of outreach to key stakeholders such as Farmer groups , local administration and government departments, local civil society organizations (CSO) and private sector participants is being carried out. The Compact and vision of development of the area will be finalized in later half of 2022 .&nbsp;The vision will be based on key thematic areas such as: Better Income for participating farmers through sustainable market linkages and fair prices; Better environment through adoption of sustainable and regenerative agriculture principles based natural farming.

The PPI Compact in Cesar includes the municipalities of Agustin Codazzi, Becerril, la Jagua de Ibirico, Chiriguana &nbsp;that together sum up an area of 484.888 ha. Approximatly 39% of the area is suitable for agricultural production and 11,8% has potential for agroforestry and protection. The area counts with a native forest cover of 34.671. These municipalities are economically driven by mining, which represnts aproximately 40% of the regional GDP, however the region is starting a transition process from a coal based economy towards a sustaible one, given more relevance to the agriculture and cattle ranching as innovative and inclusive activities for this transition.

Main commoditties of this territory, apart from the mining, are the palm oil, dairy and beef production. Other commodities as fruits, coffe and cocoa has emerged as alternatives to support the transition. In this matter, the Embassy of the Netherlands has been an important partner for the region, as well as companies like Nestlé, Alqueria and Yara.

The Mbangassina municipality is located in the Mbam and Kim Division of Central Cameroon region. The municipality covers a total surface area of about 815km&sup2;, containing 19 villages with a population of about 60,000 inhabitants and a density of 150 pers/km&sup2;. Mbangassina is a predominantly agricultural community with cocoa production being their principal occupation accounting for more than 70% of household incomes. Other crops are subsidiary and mainly subsistence, with some food sales making an important contribution to maintaining household supplies of food and income between cocoa marketing seasons. The food crops (cassava, plantain, cocoyam, yams, maize, pumpkin and fruit trees/vegetables etc.) and the large cocoa farms developed into agroforests provide this population with the essential means of subsistence and a significant part of their annual monetary income (30% to 80% on average). &nbsp;Cocoa is one of the main cash crops, production averages 5810 tonnes per year with an estimated 9700 cocoa farming households, the cultivation of plantain is another major source of income to farmers, about 2500 tonnes produced annually. Other crops considered as cash crops within the municipality include cassava, with over 72500 bags of flour sold per year and 2500 tonnes of cassava roots produced per year. Yams equally serve as a major revenue crop to households, with production averaging 2000 tonnes per year. In addition we can note that the flora of Mbangassina is rich in non-wood forest products such as mushrooms, lianas, gnetum, djansang, cola nuts, plants medicinal, wild mangoes, rattan, bamboo, and wild fruits that are source of revenue to many households (Nieboukaho et al., 2016)

About the landscape West Kalimantan West Kalimantan is a major production area for palm oil, timber, and pulp &amp; paper, and therefore vital for the Indonesian economy. It is a sourcing area for many (international) companies and provides a source of income for local communities largely dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods. In the past five years, agriculture generated IDR 120.49 trillion to the economy. At the same time, the forests and peatlands of West Kalimantan are significant carbon stocks. The estimated carbon stock remaining in the province equals 1.6 Gigatons CO2. Moreover, its forests are home to endemic and endangered species such as the Bornean orangutan and the Proboscis monkey. IDH aims to conserve 190,000 hectares of HCV/HCS forest and peatland (directly and indirectly), restore 10,000 hectares of forest and peatland, and improve sustainable agricultural production on 45,000 hectares. In addition, we aim to improve the livelihoods of 10,000 smallholder farmers and community members that are directly reached by training and service delivery. According to the Provincial Monitoring Report on GHG Emission (2020), deforestation in Kubu Raya in the period 2013-2018 reached 109,923 hectares, with an average of 18,320 hectares per year. The deforestation rate boosted by 208 percent upon the baseline. It is equivalent to 26,171 units of new soccer fields appearing every year. Taking these figures into the overall perspective of West Kalimantan Province indicates that Kubu Raya had the 2nd highest deforestation rate in 2013-2015. Deforestation has an impact on the proportion of the remaining forest cover area. The forest remains only 30 percent or 260,548 hectares of the total district area in 2018. The main challenge in Kubu Raya Regency is shifting the paradigm in managing land-based business sectors. The land-based sector is a backbone for the district to grow its regional income. According to the official data, the manufacturing industry is the most significant contributor to Gross Regional Domestic Revenue (GRDP) for 32.39 percent, while agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors for 12.04 percent in 2019. With the current pathway, achieving a balance between protection and production seems undefined. When referring to the deforestation rate, land clearing activities and fires accounted for the largest deforestation of 57,534 hectares (52.34 percent), the plantation sector covering 38,565 hectares (35 percent), the forestry sector covering 11,196 hectares (10.18 percent), the sector agriculture covering 2,545 hectares (2 percent), and 83 hectares (0.5 percent) came from the settlement (infrastructure), fisheries, and mining activities. The Government of Kubu Raya collaborates with Yayasan Inisiatif Dagang Hijau (YIDH) to respond to those challenges by compiling and implementing the sustainable development action plan. The collaboration started formally since the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Green Growth Implementation Acceleration was signed in 2020. The MoU is a form of commitment to ensure the sustainable challenges in Kubu Raya District to be solved. Furthermore, the commitment is formulated through Strategy and Action Plan Document on Kubu Raya Green Growth Acceleration (SRAK PPH). The SRAK PPH develops strategies, targets, measurable indicators, time frames, and institutional and funding frameworks. The SRAK PPH document is an operational plan for stakeholders in the land-based business sector to strengthen the PPI Compact platform at the Kubu Raya District jurisdiction level. The SRAK PPH sets seven strategies, 16 achievement targets, and more than 31 indicators that stakeholders must perform during 2020- 2025. Aligned with it, to ensure targets and indicators are achieved, the Government of Kubu Raya District prepares several “enabling conditions” to oversee the green growth implementation. One of those is through formed the Green Growth Acceleration Task Force (Pokja PPPH), which is regulated through Kubu Raya Regent Decree Number 397/Bappeda/2021 on Green Growth Acceleration Task Force. Post formed of those components, Kubu Raya District prepared to enter the intensive implementation phase of SRAK PPH to respond to the sustainable challenges there. And also, Pokja PPPH has a Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) Platform to oversee the SRAK PPH achievement progress called <a href="https://entative.org"> Entative</a>. &nbsp;

Kubu Raya

Kinabatangan, a district in eastern Sabah, is characterized by the fertile grounds of the Kinabatangan watershed and floodplains,and covers over 23% of Sabah&rsquo;s total land area. Approximately 150km of the total 560 km of the Kinabatangan River length transverses the district, and it is well-known for its unique wildlife endemic to diminishing habitats such as the freshwater swamp forests, oxbow lakes, and brackish mangrove systems which form the irreplaceable corridor that connects the upland forests with those of NE Sabah and a necessity for long term viability of elephants in the state - hence marking the district as an area of conservation significance. Consequently, the district is of socio-economic importance by sustaining livelihoods of a varied demographic, consisting mainly of the indigenous Orang Sungai, Dusun-Kadazan, Chinese and Malay. The main sources of income and employment is predominantly from oil palm, as well as eco-tourism with cultural importance attributed to the unique heritage, lifestyles, and indigenous settlements. A 5% increase in smallholder productivity could earn smallholders and the state economy nearly RM25 million per year, playing an important role in contributing to the state&rsquo;s GDP.&nbsp;

At the state level, the Sabah state government is aiming to achieve state-wide sustainable palm oil production through the implementation of Sabah Jurisdictional Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (JCSPO), based on the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil Jurisdictional Approach (RSPO JA) &ndash; Certified Sustainable Palm Oil, as well as through Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification. Implementation of the JCSPO will be led by the Sabah JCSPO Secretariat under the umbrella of Jurisdictional Certification Steering Committee (JCSC), a multi-stakeholder coalition comprised of Sabah state agencies, civil society organizations and private sector companies. Implementation of MSPO is led by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and Malaysian Palm Oil Certification Council (MPOCC), working together with the Sabah Department of Agriculture.

At the national level, IDH is partnering with Solidaridad to deliver the National Initiative on Sustainable and Climate Smart Oil Palm Smallholders (NI-SCOPs) &ndash; to support the Malaysian Government and key stakeholders such as MPOB to meet the Malaysian commitments under the Paris Agreement, the Convention on Biological Diversity, and the SDGs. The NI-SCOPs program works closely together with the Malaysian government to improve smallholder livelihoods and tackle climate change by adapting to the new climate, protecting forests, and preventing carbon emissions. In addition to smallholder-focused landscape interventions which will be carried out in selected sites throughout Malaysia, the program also has a strong link with MSPO standards, and will contribute to its review, as well as increased transparency on impacts, its implementation and enforcement.&nbsp;

Kinabatangan

Mintom is located in the South region of Cameroon, specifically in the Dja et Lobo Division some 604 km from Yaounde and 163 km away from Sangmelima, chief-town of the Dja-and- Lobo division. It is a relatively new municipality, created on the 24th April 1995, and covers a surface area of about 385,527.6 ha. The municipality is divided into 28 villages and 23 Baka Camps (pygmies) (Commune Mintom, 2015). Mintom was selected as one of the priority municipalities and the entry point in the Tridom (Ngoyla-Mintom) landscape. The TRIDOM Landscape covers nearly 10% of the Congo Basin rainforests, currently includes 11 protected areas, and holds the largest elephant population in the Congo Basin and contain most of the biodiversity typically found in central Africa&rsquo;s rainforests. It is also part of the Ngoyla-Mintom forest Massif where Ngoyla and Mintom municipalities cover respectively 61% and 29% of the area (Acworth, 2012). The Mintom municipality was selected due to its specificity of hosting some of Cameroon natural forests with the risk of losing some to cocoa and other activities such as mining if efforts are not made to hold back current trends of deforestation and degradation driven by the latter. This is especially important at this time during which there are lots of immigration into the municipality from displaced communities running away from insecurity in the troubled North west and South west regions of Cameroon. Immigration into the area is also triggered by job opportunities in the forestry and mining sector in and around the municipality.&nbsp;

Mintom					

This project introduces a PPI compact at district level via the first pilot at part of Ea Tan, Ea Toh and Dlie Ya communes of 5,200 ha. This region is selected because of its special features. This PPI compact is not demarcated by administrative borders, but by the sourcing border of company. Coffee from this whole area of 5,200 ha is sourced by a single local coffee company of Simexco via cooperatives and small traders. This area has about 30% of ethnic minorities, with very high poverty rate of 10%. This area is facing a number of issues including: (i) highest chemical input use in Dak Lak province (70% of farms overuse of chemical fertilizer higher than recommended, 60% of farms overuse of pesticide, including the use of banned pesticide according to the market requirements); (ii) water issues: 17% of farms having no access to water source and 100% of farms using 30% of water volume higher than recommended, which lead to the loss of productivity by up to 30% in dry year of 2016 adn 2019.

Krong Nang 

Barra do Gar&ccedil;as is located in the southeast of Mato Grosso state. Its economy is based on agriculture and&nbsp;tourism, with emphasis on the production of soy, rice, corn and livestock. It is located in the Cerrado biome and it is considered a transition region in terms of its agricultural production; historically a livestock region, now the grains are also expanding over the degraded pastureland areas. The total area of the municipality is 907.900 ha, of which 401.152ha is dedicated to agriculture production and 498.383ha of preserved native vegetation, of which 205.842ha are indigenous land and 11.000ha are located inside a State Park.&nbsp; 
 
IDH, together with TNC and local stakeholders, have conducted a process designed to build a sustainable development vision for the municipality of Barra do Gar&ccedil;as. This process, which took place in the first half of 2019, had as its main stages the engagement of local stakeholders, the agreement on intentions regarding the priorities for the municipality of Barra do Gar&ccedil;as, the set-up of goals, and the consolidation of the common vision for the municipality through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on June 2019. 
 
In December of 2019, a municipal law was issued creating the Barra do Gar&ccedil;as PCI Program and, in June of 2020 a municipal decree was issued creating the Barra do Gar&ccedil;as PCI Municipal Committee which will have the mandate to coordinate the implementation of the local strategy.&nbsp;
