Concerted efforts at wildlife conservation have yet again produced exciting result with the recent rescue of an elephant trapped in a ditch believed to have been dug as a trap by poachers in the area.

The rescue effort involved the Park rangers and personnel of the Okomu Oil Palm Company who patiently led the elephant out of the ditch. Elephants are known to be intelligent animals and this was proven in the rescue of the trapped elephant, noting that the elephant was able to identify the rescuers and allowed them to provide help.

It is believed that hunting of elephants for ivory may be responsible for this occurence in the landscape, moreso that the use of fireams was no longer possible due to the effective patrol and surveillance carried out by Park rangers with the support of Africa Nature Investors (ANI) and Okomu National Park.
