Regenerative Production Landscape Collaborative - RPLC

Sertão do Pajeú is located in the state of Pernambuco, in the Northeast region of Brazil. Composed of 17 municipalities, the territory stands out for the strength of family farming and for its rich cultural and tourist vocation. Recognized for the beautiful natural landscapes shaped by the Caatinga — the only exclusively Brazilian biome — Pajeú is also the cradle of a vast intangible cultural heritage, bringing together the largest concentration of poets and cordelistas in the state.
It is in this context that the Pacto Pajeú Sustentável, a territorial initiative of multisectoral articulation that aims to promote sustainable development in the Sertão do Pajeú. Currently in the consolidation phase, the Pact has an active local governance structure, formed by thematic commissions and spaces for collective deliberation. It acts as a platform for alignment, agreement and monitoring of actions in the territory. Through this structure, it seeks to strengthen sustainable production, conserve the biodiversity of the Caatinga biome, and expand socio-productive inclusion, with special attention to the role of women and young people in local production chains.
The vision of the Pact until 2027 is to consolidate the Sertão do Pajeú as a national reference in the promotion of resilient territories, connecting production and conservation through a sustainable supply model that values the ways of life in the semi-arid region and contributes to the dignified permanence of families in the field. The initiative articulates economic, social and environmental dimensions in synergy with public policies and regional planning instruments

Sustainable Pajeú

The investment in the Pajeú Producer Service Center (CAP) will have a direct impact on family farmers in 17 municipalities, strengthening production chains and expanding access to credit in the territory. The resources will make it possible to expand the service currently provided to more than 800 producers, ensuring continuous technical monitoring, support for land and environmental regularization and guidance to improve agricultural practices, in addition to facilitating access to information on financing lines. CAP will also be able to expand the number of producers trained through practical training in management, sustainable production, access to markets and actions of coexistence with the Semi-arid region. The investment will also reinforce financial inclusion, enabling more families to access credit appropriate to their productive profile. Thus, the contribution will generate a structuring impact, increasing income, strengthening sustainable chains and promoting long-term territorial development.

Invest in the Producer Service Center (CAP)

The investment in the acceleration of cooperatives will make it possible to directly strengthen the entities supported by the expertise of FGV, IDH's partner in the Roots of the Caatinga Program, expanding their commercial capacity and their preparation for new markets. The funds will enable a new round of online advice, a commercial expedition capable of generating at least one concrete opportunity in each strategic chain (fruits, honey, goat dairy products and nuts) and the development of a Market Guide to support decision-making. The contribution will also ensure the production of financial projections for selected cooperatives and the systematization of learning that will guide the next phase of the program. With this investment, cooperatives in the Caatinga will become more structured, professionalized and able to increase their income through formal markets and public policies, generating direct economic impact for hundreds of farming families.

Support the acceleration of cooperatives in the Caatinga

With this investment, it will be possible to achieve the goal of reaching 1,544 farming families by 2026 that are part of the Participatory Guarantee Systems and Participatory Conformity Assessment Bodies (SPGs/OPACs), increasing the production of agroecological cotton in intercropping systems and ensuring participatory organic certification. The resources will make it possible to incorporate new farmers into the model, expand cultivated areas, expand technical training actions and strengthen food security through crop diversification. The investment will also boost sustainable soil management practices and reduce the use of chemical inputs, contributing to the climate resilience of communities in the semi-arid region. By supporting this initiative, the investor generates direct socio-environmental impact, expands income opportunities and strengthens the agroecological network of the Caatinga.

Boost agroecological cotton and generate social impact

With this investment, it will be possible to directly strengthen four strategic production chains in the Sertão do Pajeú: poultry farming - impacting exclusively women -, fish farming, goat farming and beekeeping. The contribution will make it possible to expand the productive and managerial capacity of 220 family farmers served by the project, enabling technical consulting, training, management improvements and implementation of processing units. These resources will help production groups to increase their productivity, diversify production and access new markets. The investment will also boost women's productive inclusion, increase family income, and the adoption of sustainable practices appropriate to the semi-arid region. By supporting this initiative, the investor contributes directly to transforming local chains and strengthening the socioeconomic development of the Sertão do Pajeú.

The territory of Pajeú is a land of great opportunities: it has a consolidated and participatory governance and is a thriving territory, with a strong tradition of family farming. Despite its great potential, the region demands investments aimed at strengthening sustainable production chains, water security, and responsible landscape management, allowing family farmers to increase their income and climate resilience. Resources applied in technical assistance, productive infrastructure, technologies for coexistence with the semi-arid region and access to markets contribute directly to improving local livelihoods and conserving the biome. For investors, the territory offers opportunities for positive socio-environmental impact, strengthening ESG agendas, and participation in resilient and expanding production chains.
