The Cavally region is one of the main forested areas of Côte d'Ivoire. With an estimated population of 550,000 people over 11,376 km2, it is also an important producer of cocoa and rubber. However, the region is plagued with deforestation and has lost about 80% of its forest cover between 1960 and 2018, mainly due to agricultural activities. Deforestation impacts not only forests in the rural domain, but also protected areas such as the Taï National Park and classified forests such as the Cavally, Goin Débé, or Scio classified forests.

To respond to this challenge, the Cavally Regional Council has led the development of two documents that support sustainable development of the region: a Regional Land Use and Development Plan (SRADT), and a Green Growth Plan, which were developed through a participatory process bringing together a coalition of public and private sector actors, technical and financial partners and civil society – a process supported by IDH.

In March 2022, 27 public and private organizations and civil society representatives signed a Memorandum of Understanding (a Production, Protection, Inclusion Compact), through which they committed to working together towards inclusive and environmentally friendly growth in the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.idhsustainabletrade.com/landscapes/cavally-cote-divoire/">Cavally</a>&nbsp;region.

Through this agreement, the signatories committed to support implementation of the green growth plan, on the following pillars:

	<li>Protection, restoration and sustainable management of the Taï National Park; classified forests and other rural forests of the region;</li>
	<li>Inclusion of the population in the protection and restoration of forests, with a focus on youth and women;</li>
	<li>Promotion of fuelwood and timber through new tree plantations;</li>
	<li>Improvement of the productivity of cash crops (cocoa, coffee, rubber etc) and food products (rice, maize, cassava, yam, etc);</li>
	<li>Facilitation of access to finance through VSLAs;</li>
	<li>Support to acquisition of land certificates.</li>

Sorriso&nbsp;is located in the northern part of Mato Grosso state and it is a major grain producer in Brazil. Its economy is strongly linked to intensive production of soy and corn, occupying a large part of its territory. It is also located in a transition region between the Cerrado and the Amazon Biomes. The total area of the municipality is 934.755 ha, of which 632.025ha is dedicated to annual crops and 287.000ha of preserved native vegetation. The grains production in Sorriso corresponds to 1,1% of total value of national production, with R$ 5.3 billion produced.&nbsp;

 
The compact was initiated in May 2018, with the convening of stakeholders from the public sector and farmers representative; over the past of 4 months different stakeholders were invited to participate on the construction of the vision and targets for the territory, being them representative of the family agriculture farmers, NGO´s, local industries, banks, retailers and traders and in September of 2018 a Letter of Intentions were signed and a vision for the sustainable development of the territory was established. After the signature of the letter of intentions the recently formed local coalition started to build up the local targets in accordance with the vision and in April 2019 the Compact was formally signed through an MoU between the parties.

Lac Duong is a district located in Lam Dong, one of the richest forest resource areas in the Central Highland region, with 85% forest coverage and high forest reserve and biodiversity. The total area of Lac Duong is 131,394 ha, of which the forestry area accounts for the majority with 113.936 ha and the agricultural area is 11,374 ha. The area of coffee, vegetables and flowers is 4,208 ha, 3,450 and 1, 127 ha, respectively, while the rest is used for other agricultural products such as rice and fruits.

 
This five year project aims to support Lac Duong district in&nbsp; developing a deforestation-free sustainable landscape through strengthening&nbsp; the&nbsp; PPI compact in the whole district of Lac Duong based on green growth and sustainability. This is to be achieved through a public-private-partnership approach that seeks to contribute meaningfully to key agriculture sector policies and socio-economic development goals and natural resource conservation objectives of the district. Focuses of the project are: (i) Business transformation (ii) Legal framework and PPP governance (iii) Forest protection and Soil conservation; (v) Sustainable production practices and (vi) Increased incomes and improved living standards for coffee/vegetable farming households.

The PPI Compact Huila includes the municipalities of Algeciras, Gigante, Garzón, Agrado and Campoalegre, that together sum up an area of 243.642 ha. It is estimated that 14% of this area belongs to natural forest, counts with 5 protected areas, and around 25% of the territory is suitable for agriculture. The municipalities are part of the subcenter region of Huila and stand out because of the production and quality of cacao and coffee, other commodities produced in this area are rice, tilapia, sugar cane and red beans. The Municipalities have a strong influence from the Magdalena River and El Quimbo and Betania dams. Diferent intiatives and articulations are being developed in the those territories like the Efecto Cacao, run by Luker Foundationa and financed by USAID, Luker Chocolate, Enel Emgesa, EAFIT and IDH; the Colombia + competitiva initiative led by SECO and Swiss Contact; and Cacao Origins financed by IDH and the Embassy of The Netherlands, and implemented by EQUIORI and Colcocoa.

Huila has a long history as an agriculture Department of Colombia with some of the finest coffees and cocoas from Colombia. Huila has been also recognized for its high rice production. Additionally, the area is included as a transition zone of the Amazon ecoregion, which acquires importance in terms of conservation.
