Regenerative Production Landscape Collaborative - RPLC

Western Cariri is located in the state of Paraíba, in the Northeast region of Brazil, and is inserted in the Caatinga biome — the only exclusively Brazilian biome. Composed of 17 municipalities, the territory stands out for the strength of family farming, the richness of the historical-cultural heritage and the innovations in the field of coexistence with the semi-arid region. This scenario has been strengthened through several sustainable territorial development initiatives, with emphasis on actions aimed at structuring local production chains and valuing traditional knowledge and practices. One of the greatest symbols of this cultural identity is the Renaissance lace, an intangible heritage of Paraíba. Western Cariri is home to the largest concentration of renaissance lacemakers in the world, whose production, in addition to carrying historical and aesthetic value, moves the local economy and strengthens female protagonism in the territory. It is in this context that the Sustainable Cariri Pact emerges, a territorial initiative of multisectoral articulation that aims to promote sustainable development in Western Cariri through a landscape approach. The proposal of the pact is to bring together efforts from the public sector, the private sector and civil society around common goals and strategies, aligned with the three pillars of the Caatinga Roots Program: Produce, Protect and Include. Currently in the consolidation phase, the Sustainable Cariri Pact has an active and diverse governance structure, composed of civil society organizations, educational institutions, cooperatives, associations and municipal public managers. This governance has promoted spaces for collective construction, definition of priorities and monitoring of actions, acting as a platform for agreement and articulation of efforts in the territory. The Pact's strategy until 2027 is to consolidate Western Cariri as a reference territory in sustainability in the semi-arid region, through the integration of agricultural production, environmental conservation, and socio-productive inclusion. The initiative focuses on valuing traditional ways of life, the inclusion of women, young people and rural peoples, and the creation of opportunities that strengthen the dignified permanence of families in the territory. The actions have been driven by the strengthening of family agribusinesses, the expansion of access to markets and credit, the use of social technologies adapted to the semi-arid region and the articulation with public policies to support family farming and socio-biodiversity. Sustainable Cariri

The investment in CAP Cariri will have a direct impact on family farmers in the territory, strengthening production chains and expanding access to credit and public policies. The resources will allow the expansion of the service currently provided to more than 1,000 producers, ensuring continuous technical monitoring, support for land and environmental regularization and guidance to improve agricultural practices. CAP has already supported the insertion of groups in the PAA and PNAE, resulting in more than R$ 1,590,000 leveraged, and will be able to expand training in management, sustainable production, access to markets and coexistence with the Semi-arid region. The investment will also reinforce financial inclusion, allowing more families to access credit appropriate to their profile. Thus, the contribution generates structuring impact, increases income, strengthens sustainable chains and promotes long-term territorial development.

Strengthen CAP Cariri and generate measurable socio-environmental impact

The investment in the acceleration of cooperatives will make it possible to directly strengthen the entities supported by the expertise of FGV, IDH's partner in the Roots of the Caatinga Program, expanding their commercial capacity and their preparation for new markets. The funds will enable a new round of online advice, a commercial expedition capable of generating at least one concrete opportunity in each strategic chain (fruits, honey, goat dairy products and nuts) and the development of a Market Guide to support decision-making. The contribution will also ensure the production of financial projections for selected cooperatives and the systematization of learning that will guide the next phase of the program. With this investment, cooperatives in the Caatinga will become more structured, professionalized and able to increase their income through formal markets and public policies, generating direct economic impact for hundreds of farming families.

Drive the acceleration of cooperatives in the Caatinga

ith this investment, it will be possible to achieve the goal of reaching 1,544 farming families by 2026 who are part of the SPGs/OPACs, increasing the production of agroecological cotton in intercropping systems and ensuring participatory organic certification. The resources will make it possible to incorporate new farmers into the model, expand cultivated areas, expand technical training actions and strengthen food security through crop diversification. The investment will also boost sustainable soil management practices and reduce the use of chemical inputs, contributing to the climate resilience of communities in the semi-arid region. By supporting this initiative, the investor generates direct socio-environmental impact, expands income opportunities and strengthens the agroecological network of the Caatinga.

Boost agroecological cotton and generate social impact

The investment will make it possible to certify 10 agribusinesses that are currently idle, enabling them to fully operate and access new markets. With the planned adjustments, daily production may reach 7,000 liters of milk for the manufacture of inspected dairy products. The project will also ensure the training of 300 producers of food of animal origin, strengthening quality and food safety practices, in addition to including new establishments with adequate hygienic-sanitary infrastructure to expand the supply of dairy products. At the same time, a program will be structured to promote the poultry chain and the training of 300 producers will be promoted on digital platforms, expanding the use of technologies, marketing strategies and access to markets. With this investment, the territory will strengthen its production chains, increase family income, and boost the sustainable development of the region.

Invest in the certification and strengthening of Agroindustries

Cariri Paraíba is a region of great socio-environmental relevance, marked by resilient communities, a strong vocation for family farming and insertion in one of the main goat dairy basins in the country. Despite the productive and cultural potential, the territory requires investments that strengthen sustainable chains, increase water security and promote responsible management of the Caatinga. These contributions are essential for farmers to increase their income, diversify production, and expand their climate resilience. Investments in qualified technical assistance, productive infrastructure, technologies for coexistence with the semi-arid region and structured access to markets boost local development and conservation of the biome. For investors, Cariri represents a strategic opportunity to generate positive social and environmental impact, advance ESG agendas and strengthen resilient and expanding production chains.
